What Can I Do For Nigeria?

I was a huge fan of Nigeria growing up. I remember blasting off friends who courted the idea of leaving this country for greener pastures way before we fully understood the existence of words like patrotism, pan-Africanism, and even japa.

I was a big fan of the green-white-green.

... then I grew up, and saw for myself how Nigeria literally personifies evil, finding creative ways to always justify it.

While it may be easy to blame an entity, a figurehead, or the people in power for this decadence the truth is, Nigeria is bad today because my neighbour and I are bad people. An uncomfortable truth many don't like to hear.

So, what can I do for Nigeria?

It might not be much, it might not be fully sincere, but already, I try to be at peace with myself and with my neighbour. I do this because I believe it is through peaceful coexistence I can leave positive imprints and the need to be better humans in them, so that they, in turn, can imprint in the lives of others they come across in their separate lives.

Hopefully, one soul at a time, we can shift the mindset of Nigerians enough to influence positive change from the ground up.
